Behavioural scientist, speaker and writer on authenticity at work
I study what happens when an organisation’s stated values and its everyday practice drift apart, and I work with leaders who want to close the gap.
Worked with Panasonic, NatWest, the UN Human Rights Office, the British Army, Jacobs and Squire Patton Boggs
Training that has reached more than 15,000 professionals around the world
Award-winning research on authenticity at work
I’m a behavioural scientist and Associate Professor of Behavioural Science at Durham University, where I direct professional education in behavioural science.
My award-winning work on authenticity in organisations looks at what happens when values and practice come apart, and how to close the gap. My research has appeared in journals including the Journal of Economic Psychology and the European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology. I’ve also worked with organisations including Panasonic, NatWest, the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR), the British Army, Jacobs and Squire Patton Boggs.
I trained in psychology in Florida, at the University of Florida and the University of Central Florida, before moving to the UK for a PhD at Aston Business School. Away from work I’m a keen runner, I play and coach football, and I ski whenever I can.

Leadership advice usually treats authenticity as being true to yourself. My work asks a different question about organisations: do they do what they say?
Employees, customers and investors notice the difference. In some areas, regulators now check it too.
Read the researchWhether commitments show up in hiring, pay and everyday treatment.
Whether green claims match what the business actually does.
Whether stated values hold up when targets and pressure rise.
Keynotes, workshops and virtual sessions for leadership teams, and for HR, sustainability and communications audiences.
My sessions mix research, real cases and hands-on exercises.
I’m based in Durham, England, and speak worldwide, in person or online.
